    1150 starter clutch springs

Anyone know if a stiffer spring is a bad idea. One of the springs I have is slightly bent/kinked and barely puts any pressure on the 1 of 3 dowel/rollers in the starter clutch.

I bought some springs that are close but have more tension. Think this'll cause the starter clutch to stay locked up? Any thoughts appreciated thanks.

It will be fine as long as they aren't valve spring stiff. Ray.

Do you want the pin firmly planted against the roller or just nudging it?

I ended it up putting the old springs back in because no one responed in time.

It works, but still snatches abit like a car that's already running and then the key is turned.

You M U S T replace the springs. Leaving the old ones in after you know they are damaged and/or weak is begging for trouble.

When you buy the springs buy new rollers as well.

They are inexpensive and readily available.

Can anyone confirm the firmly planted or just nudging it on the spring to roller contact? Thanks for any help.

Why not just get some new springs from your dealer,

Good idea. But slightly stronger springs won't cause any harm. You need good tension on the rollers when the engine is stationary for the starter to operate correctly. Centrifugal force will soon overcome the slightly stronger springs to disengage the starter clutch, once the engine is running.
