I bought some springs that are close but have more tension. Think this'll cause the starter clutch to stay locked up? Any thoughts appreciated thanks.

1150 starter clutch springs
Anyone know if a stiffer spring is a bad idea. One of the springs I have is slightly bent/kinked and barely puts any pressure on the 1 of 3 dowel/rollers in the starter clutch.

Do you want the pin firmly planted against the roller or just nudging it?
I ended it up putting the old springs back in because no one responed in time.
It works, but still snatches abit like a car that's already running and then the key is turned.GS\'s since 1982: 55OMZ, 550ES, 750ET, (2) 1100ET\'s, 1100S, 1150ES. Current ride is an 83 Katana. Wifes bike is an 84 GS 1150ES

You M U S T replace the springs. Leaving the old ones in after you know they are damaged and/or weak is begging for trouble.
When you buy the springs buy new rollers as well.
They are inexpensive and readily available.
