    Blinker not Blinking

Ok, I have a front left turn signal issue here.

When I bought the bike, the right signals worked correctly. The left would burn an not blink, the left front wouldn't burn or blink.

I replaced the bulb in the front left. Now, it both left front/rear will burn but neither will blink. When you select the left turn signal, you can hear a click as though it wants to blink but doesn't. Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Chris

Had same problem after the GS1000 had been into the main dealer. During strip down the earrth wire had snapped and the mechanic had stuck a bit of rubber glove over the broken wire and shoved it back into the indicator.

I also had the same problem after refitting the tank. Follow the left hand indicator wire down to where it joins the main loom and check the block connector as they can sometimes come loose there.

You can also clean the contacts with the bulb as it will sometimes do it.

You did not say what type of GS it is, but I had to replace the turn signal control unit on my GS1100E. Works like a charm now.

            Update:
Ok, I took my trusty multimeter and started checking continuity. I took the headlight out and found the left and right blinker wire harnesses.

I found that the right signal's secondary circuit (blinking) is a white wire from the stalk to a 1to1 connector to a lime green wire coming out of the harness. Ground is black w/white stripe and is connected via a 1to1 connector to a black w/white stripe that goes into the harness. Checked it for continuity when turned on. Works fine.

Tracing the left signals wires, I found that the ground, black w/white strip is connected to a 2to1 connector. White wire (blink hot) is connected to the same 2to1 connector as the ground! I can't find a free connector that would run from the battery as a hot to the white from the stalk.

I double checked the circuit from the bulb back by swapping the supply from left to right. So, when I turned on the right (working) blinker, it made the left hand (non-working) bulb flash. So, I know it should function.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram that would tell me what the wire should look like that supplys the secondary (flasher) circuit from the main harness to the stalk's harness?

            Thanks,
            Chris

Nevermind. I typed this message and then walked back out to the bike and found the errant lead! Next time, I'll go pretend to type a post and then walk back and look again before actually posting!

              Thanks,

              Chris

Glad you found the problem... one of the mounts for my indicators is bent a bit, and every now and then i think it shorts out a bit on the fender causing my lights not to blink...

The fact that you see both bulbs lighting when you select a turn indicates that there's nothing wrong with any of the wiring or bulbs of course and that your signal switch is selecting ok. The 2 most likely causes of your problem based on the above are.......a bad flasher.....this can be replaced with a typical 2 prong automotive unit......and secondly, low system voltage (you'd notice the bulbs being dim......and have other issues such as poor cranking.....running maybe).

On my GS1000 the flasher is on the left side under the cover.
