Ran open wheeled "mini-mods" for a few years, 2.3L Fords...at 8000 RPMs, with 180 degree exhaust and open at the collector, the DRONE of the exhaust note would give you a stomah ache in 5 laps...your fillings and crowns would all but fall out of your head! But FUN!!!!! :-D

For some reason though...when I hear the metric bikes with open exhaust, it makes me think....can't afford the V&H...Harley wan't to be...are you going to junk it? :?

And yes, size does matter to the exhaust note...when was the last time you heard a diesel electric train go by with an exhaust note that bothered you? Open exhaust there!!

Hey, i may be new here... But how about we try and be civil around here. Everyone does what they want any ways. Giving opinions that were requested is one thing... Straight out hounding the guy over your personal feelings is another. Sounds like the anti-social idiot is you. Learn a little courtesy buddy, it'll make life so much nicer. Maybe not for you, but atleast for the people that have to listen to you. :?

Thank you very much. I may be an idiot, but so is the guy in question. Someone has to tell him how antisocial he is.

I really don't care what you say -- the guy is an idiot, and a motorcyclist should be the one telling him that.

I'm out of this thread. I stand by what I said.

so now i am in idiot for modifying my bike a little bit... i want to get the thing on the road. first and foremost. then when i can afford it i will make it better. sorry if you dont like what i am going to do. that doesnt mean i am an idiot.

there is no reason for you to say that.

if i wanted your personal opinion on what kind of person i am, i would ask.

i wanted a consensus on what people thought about open pipes on bikes, not what you think of the owner.

i have what like 30 posts on this forum and now i am getting bashed for something i have not done by some guy called "grandpa"

          wow.

i would run open pipes just to **** people like you off.

its my bike, i can tear it down to the frame and melt the thing if i want to. that may make me an idiot in your eyes but hey, its not your bike.

Do what you want to your bike!!I would like a loud bike but my neighbors would not.If it is just for a little while ...go for it.Another thing to consider is that you might do damage to your bike that way unless you properly adjust for it.I wish I could find a 4 into 1 for my 650.I did have a 750 with no baffel in one side. Its sounded good!!! People are going to ride you for wanting to make a lot of noise. It's personal preference.Just don't go off on them for there concern. They just want to keep a good name for bikers. There is just way to much concern for noise pollution.I hate it when somebody pulls up to the gas pump with there stereo blaring!!!!Personally I wish my bike was louder.

                GS1000 straight pipes now...

Go ahead and try it... but I doubt you will like it. A month ago my baffle in my 4 into 1 kerker pipe blew out the back on the highway...I turned around and couldnt find it . So I got home and thought screw this crappy pipe and unbolted it a little above the collector. I drove it like that for a week thinking its not that bad, however now I cant stand it and dont want to ride untill my new pipe arrives. Its ear splitting at anything over 3000 rpm...when reving it up you can probably here it at least a couple miles away...plus its a little embarrising in public with cars and people around you, I can feel dissaproving eyes everywhere. And I know the cops would definatly stop me if they hered it rev up. While riding it, it feels like the noise is right in your ear instead of behind you like harleys. Anyways try it for now because its hard to pass up riding but lets see how long you last....:-D

i do want to get the 4-1 very soon though cause i need the backpressure on the engine.

Hang on I'll stick my head out the window and let you know if I can hear it from Australia.................. Nope it's fine can't hear it from here so it's okay by me. Personally I love 'em loud, sometimes I get woken up at 3am by someone running a multi cyl m/cycle at high revs blocks away and although I dont like being woken at that time of the am it still puts a smile on my face. ..... And I'm a Grandpa too, just not a grumpy ol one that doesn't remember being young. Ride fast ride safe have fun and stay off drugs they'll kill ya.

Thanks for posting that; I can't wait to see how much BETTER that 4-in-1 is going to look than those pea-shooters. I do hope you got black headers and canister for that screaming yellow paint job... Next, you'll need a Bikemaster Superbike bar, in black (cheap knock-off of the old K&N Superbike bars in black chrome), to put you in proper riding position when you open the throttle... Add some Pro-Grips gel-filled grips (try the 724 model), for long-term comfort... Looks like that brake torque arm could use a few shots of black paint as well... Finish it off with stainless steel brake lines... Hey, I'm having a LOT of fun spending YOUR money on this!

OK, just to be serious for a minute, I do hope you'll consider my suggestions... I also hope you haven't burned an exhaust valve while you're riding without a real exhaust system on there... the reduced back-pressure can really ruin an engine pretty quickly:

Step One - Exhaust valves glow red-hot

Step Two - Head of an exhaust valve breaks off

Step Three - Super-heated exhaust valve punches through red-hot piston crown, and falls into bottom end of engine

Step Four - MAJOR $$$$ engine surgery, or engine transplant required before motorcycle is rideable again

Step Five - Expensive lesson learned the hard way

A word to the wise; don't ride it more than you have without the V&H system installed...

turbo diesels are quiet because of the turbo which does a great job muffling the exhaust.
