Desperate To Fix 78' Gs 400 X Help!

i dont know whats up with this forum listing my bike as a GS 400 C?
    MY BIKE: 1978 Suzuki GS 400 X

Cant get the air/fuel mixture right.
People say I have to rejet it.
But it was running fine before.
    I only changed the floats.
Another problem, after about 15 min of riding my bike, something seems to drain my battery. And it just shuts off even though the battery is fine. Battery is new, but the bike wont charge. The headlights are dim but battery OK.
I think my carburator problem might be due to the charging of the bike.?
    I dont know?
    Is it a stator?
    A regulator?
    A rectifier?
The carbs need rejetting? I dont know?
NO ONE KNOWS THE MEANING OF "DESPERATION" LIKE I DO!!!!
I NEED THIS BIKE TO RUN.!
NO I DONT HAVE $60 a hour to pay a mechanic.
Just tell me what to do and I WILL DO IT!!
ASK THE QUESTIONS I WILL GIVE THE RESPONSE.

SO PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP BECAUSE YOU DONT KNOW DESPERATION ....
PUT ME ON THE TOP OF YOUR LIST OF HELP.

If all you changed were the floats, your float level is probably incorrect.
For the charging issue, see the following stator papers:

Your bike is actually a GSX 400 C. GSs were also known as GSXs, especially outside the U.S. The "C" designation indicates that it is a 1978 model.
And calm down, everything will be O.K. You have come to the right site, there are many wiser than me that can provide more assistance.
You should probably go ahead and post down in the section Bike Maintentance - Technical Info. You will get a faster response in that section.

      dude...chill out.

and come to davis when you get that thing running and we can go cruising on our twin 78s

btw, i don't think the "c" means its a 1978. the 400x (mine) is the one with kickstart only and drum brakes f&r whereas the 400xc has electric start and discs up front. i think that's right...don't quote me though.

      edit:

ok, it turns out i was wrong. if its just a "c" then its the "fancy" one and if it is an "xc" then its the base one.

Check the year code for 1978 at this site:

He is right most of the time, including my 1983 GS1100ED.

Calm down General. Are you gonna be around this weekend? I can come down from San Jose ant take a peek at those carbs for you. Believe me, I know carb woes!

Until then, check out the Stator Papers as recommended earlier.

Also, in the future post your questions in the tech section. You'll get more attention there.

And as for your model. All Suzuki's made in '78 are "C" models. It was Suzuki's designation for the model year. Check out the model information link from the homepage. http://www.thegsresources.com/gs_modelchart.htm

            78 Gs 400

            wow cool...

            ok I'm calm.

            its frustarting!

            Motorcycling is my get away.
And I have not been able to get away.

            But yeah.
If you are in SAn Jose, I would be stoked if you can come to Santa Cruz and take a look at my GS 400.

And thnx. I learn something new all the time.
            So it is a "C"?
Why am I told it is a GS 400 X?
dealership folks tell me that also that it is an "X".

            cool.
I can find parts for this bike as a "C".

I dont know if this will post publicly but shoot me a email direct to:

mjs94080@gmail.com and I will send a contact number....

General, welcome, but please post your technical questions to the technical forum. You will get answers much more quickly that way and save out very busy administrator a lot of time.

if they are telling you it is an "x", that is probably because it is an "xc". does it have drum brakes on the front and ONLY a kickstarter? if so, then it is the base model (xc). if it has disc on the front and an electric start that it is a "c". it really doesn't matter what model it is except with regard to the starter and the front brakes - those are the only significant differences between the 400s of that year with perhaps the exception of some electrical add ons like gear indicators and such. again, with the exception of the front brakes and any starting equipment, the parts will be the same regardless of the specific bike.

Synching a two cylinder bike is a breeze, don't even need guages. Just pull one plug at a time, crank the throttle stop up, and check the rpm's to adjust.
