Sad to say, but you probably do have the correct pipe. 8-[

Not all the pipe manufacturers were nice enough to route the pipes away from other service items like the drain plug and filter. They were more concerned with getting their product the way they wanted it, all the others would have to adapt to them.

and that's funny because I work on two bikes (83 550E and 83 750E) with vance and hines 4 - 1s on em and neither of em do I have to remove the headers the get at the oil filter or drain plug....

saying that though I have an unidentified header on the 85 parts bike that runs all the pipes straight down and the collector is right where the drain plug is...

V&H DID make a drag pipe that did not allow drain plug access - that may be the one you got.

Most pipe companies would have two or three lines of pipes. If you were willing to just go with a pipe that didn't require rejetting and was just more of a replacement pipe you could keep the centerstand and plug access. If you wanted more performance you had to lose the centerstand and on some bikes lose drain plug access. The '83 and up 700/750 E models had a smaller port diameter than the rest of the GS line. It is in fact the same diameter as today's GSXR models. Port spacing is the same as other GS models as well as the air cooled GSXRs. You can use early GSXR pipes up until they went to liquid cooling. After that port spacing changed.
