83 750E Rear brake master cylinder woes.

Got to looking over the brakes tonight and tried to change the fluid in the rear master. Pumped the brake pedal but nothing coming. Pulled off the caliper and master cylinder for a cleaning. Got the master apart only to find the piston stuck about half way down the bore, apparentley frozen in place. Gave a tap with a punch and hammer but it only went deeper. I'll need to drill it out. Before I get to that is there a source for the piston, spring and cup set? Does Suzuki still carry or is there an alternate source?

All info and suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Spyug.

You should be able to find one here in the classifieds that is not frozen, I wouldn't try to repair it.

I have an idea that I have used to free stuck pistons on antique engines. You will have to fabricate a means of connecting grease gun to the outlet on the master cylinder and then pump grease into it to push the piston out. You maybe able to used compressed air, but be carefull as it could come out with a lot of vilocity. I would prefer a liquid of some sort, as it will not compress and create a hazard.

I have seen brake parts on ebay as well.

      Good luck,

      Greg O.

Had the same problem with my '81, but it wouldn't even budge. Once it's that frozen, rebuilding's out of the question if you want reliable brakes. Luckily, the rear MC is interchangeable on a lot of these bikes.

Guys I managed to get the piston assembly out by using Greg's method which I have also used in the past with calipers. Worked like a charm. Had a good magnifying glass inspection of the bits and the bore ( couldn't find any damage....must have been held in by the dried crud), cleaned and reassembled. Works like a charm.

I think I will still try to find a rebuild kit just as a backup. From what I've been able to tell, they are still on Suzuki's parts lists. Or I can get one from E-Bay as suggested.

            Thanks guys.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I reassembled the master today and got it back on the bike. Fresh fluid and she's good to go.

I checked with the local Zook dealer and they can get the piston/spring kit so I;ll order up and have it for spare.

                Cheers,
