"85" GS 550ES Starts better, runs worse
Baught this bike for my wife a few yrs. ago. It's always been hard to start, when cold, & very very cold natured. Always runs fine after warmed up, and restarts easy with just a touch of throttle rest of day. A couple of weeks ago, I put appx. 8 oz. of Sea Foam fuel additive in a full tank of gas. Everything fine till a couple days ago. Bike is starting good, but won't idle worth a flip after warmed up, constantly blipping throttle to keep it running. If it dies, won't restart at all. Won't even hit a lick, even with a shot of starting fluid. Next day, when completely cooled down. Full choke, touch the start button & it fires right up. Hoping for suggestions, short of pulling the oddball 2bbl. carbs.1983 GS1100E, 1983 CB1100F, 1991 GSX1100G, 1996 Kaw. ZL600 Eliminator, 1999 Bandit 1200S, 2005 Bandit 1200S, 2000 Kaw. When you added the SeaFoam, did you RIDE THE BIKE to go through that tank, or did you just let it sit?
The strong solution works well, but you need to keep fuel flowing through the jets to clean them. You can then let it sit overnight, but refill the tank to dilute the mixture soon after that.

The fact is that the Seafoam may have actually loosened up some crap in your tank that is now in your carbs. Most likely, one or more float needle valves is now being held open, making the bike overly rich at idle.
Go ahead, ask me how I know.
And yes, you WILL need to pull the carbs.
