    r/r very hot

hi all for no aparant reason my freinds r/r on his gs750 just gets hot within seconds of the engine starting so hot the terminal connecter melted and the lights flicker, any one got any idea what could cause this?

Bad earth? It can't shunt the current to ground so it's doing it through it's own circuitry & getting hot really fast (at least I think so anyhow...)

Try connecting a lead from battery negative to the ground connector on the RR. If you want to do a quick test you should be able to use a jumper cable just to see if it makes a difference.

Gotta go with Dan on this one. Clean ALL your ground leads, very well...add a dab of dielectric grease to the connectors and retest. Hope it's no too late already!!

If it is getting that hot it is probably already toast (ed)

Go to the stator papers and do a test on the r/r and stator! I just replace my stator tonight and my bike is putting out 14.5 volts now.I have'nt seen it that high ever! That's how i found out it was bad.
