Well, it is Sunday, and Father's Day to boot, so there's probably no one there. Probably no one at any other place you'd order it from, either.

Do a search here on the forum for your model bike and "Dyna", you'll probably find someone that's already done it.

Also, you might do the same search on Ebay.

Apparently you just need to swap your advance for an older unit.

I searched my bike and they gave me this ignition system(DYNA S DS3-2)
Supplying new parts for Vintage Motorcycles! Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha. Old Bike Barn has what you need for your vintage motorcycle project!

They said "The Dyna S is completely housed behind the ignition cover and uses a magnetic rotor with the original spark advancer, so the factory advance curve is maintained"
So, will i still need the timing plate and advancer?

You might need to find a 78-79 mechanical advance unit. I don't know for sure, you should PM the guy from the link I sent and ask how he got his to fit and what Dyna he used. The only other option I've found is using a Dyna 2000 system, but that's $400 for the whole setup.

I FOUND OUT A LITTLE BIT!
I will have to buy an advace unit and an older cover.

I found this cover. Will it fit on my bike.

                (Will this work?)

                ALSO...>If i don't find the cover...How do i space it or use a "SPACER"??

Honestly, if it only has to be spaced a little bit, I'd take a factory gasket and use it as a template to make a gasket out of 1/8" rubber or something similar. That area doesn't hold oil, the gasket is primarily to keep moisture and elements out. Might need slightly longer bolts, those and the rubber "gasket material" should be available at any decent hardware store.

Have you tested all your OEM components yet?
Your being directed towards what may be a needless expensive purchase.

This is becoming a long thread but the link i gave you should allow you to test your signal generator and igniter

you also need to disassemble the innerd of your spark plug caps the brass insert srews out and has a resistor and a spring inside that can rust leading to infinite resistance.

of course if you are keen on the aftemrnarket can you send me your old stuff in a plain manila envelope?

                        Syncali,
Here's my response to the 'anonymous' guy's same question:

I just converted my '83 550 to the Dyna S system. It takes a bit of work. I still have not modified my cover to fit. This requires making a spacer to shim the cover out about 1 cm. That cover you have linked from ebay will not fit as the bolt spacing is different. The mech. advance that you have there will work. You just need to know if its ND or KD, as they are different. IIRC, there's no science about which models had ND or KD, so just order it off ebay and wait for it to show up. Then once you know its ND or KD, you can order your Dyna S. It will have ND or KD stamped on it.

The mech advance will fit on your crank shaft fine with no shim. You will need a shim on the mech advance for the dyna s rotor, as it will have some slop on there. I made a shim out of a round brass shim bought at Lowes.

The big problem is the difference in plate mounting between models. Earlier models with adjustable timing had three screws to mount the timing plate. Our models have 2 screws. To correct this, I used the dyna s mounting plate as a template for a new aluminum plate, but used a drill and chainsaw file to make my own slots for timing adjustment. I then adjusted the timing by feel and sound, since our cranks had no mark for TDC.
You should also listen to the rest of these guys and test the resistance on your ignitor box. I'd hate to see you go through the hassle and expense of the Dyna S if you didn't need it.
