    blown main fuse

the main fuse blew on my 82gs1100g. i got the meter out and noticed that it wasn't charging. test stator an its only 15v at 5000rpm checking the 3 wires. i didn't think to check the rectifier and regulator. if my stator went will something els need to be changed. or should i just replace the stator. my bike is 300 miles away now that i found the papers and i need to order parts befor i go back
    thanks

If the main fuse is blown, it won't charge the battery. Did you try replacing the fuse and checking the charge again?

Either way, if you checked the stator output and only got 15 volts, that's not good. Are you sure you were checking AC volts? Kinda unusual if all three legs are that low, so I suspect something else, but not sure just what at this time.

i was driving it when it started to sputter as soon as i took my hand of the gas it died no lights nothing. i replaced the main fuse and it started right back up but sence the fuse blew for a reason i decided to tow it home. i started checking connections and everything seamed ok so i got out the multimeter. i started it up and i only got 11.7volts at the headlight so i checked the battery with the engine running and only got 12.2volts. i checked the manual for the procedure to check the stator. i disconnected the3 wires white/blue, white green and yellow. i started it up and checked them alternating between them. on 2 i got 15volts and 1 had nothing. i had the meter on ac and also checked the meter on a wall outlet and got 120volts. i was pretty pi**ed because i had to call in at work so i didn't think to check the rectifier or regulator.
problem is i need to order the parts tomorrow be for i can go back home to check it farther. i was reeding the stator papers and was wondering if the stators bad will that kill the recto or reg or vise versa.
      thanks for the reply

This is only a guess, but since the fuse blew Chances are the reg shorted is bad.

Read all the stator papers. It reads the sad reasons of decline for these charging systems.
I do believe it reads the R/R goes bad and the extra energy gets put back into the stator and fries it.
