    630 chain replacement

    Hey folks,

Where is the best place for value and price to get a replacement chain for my 1980 GS 750 L? My old chain is origional, and the "O" rings are shot - it is not really worn out, but is getting loud and needs constant outside lubercation - which really makes a mess.

I found an "EK" chain (EK 630SRO) on the internet at BikeBandit.com w/ O-ring. Is this a good replacement chain for my GS? Any better suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Paul C.

I did a 530 kit on my 77 gs chain & sprockets, I did notice it pulled a little better and lost about 10pds in chain weight. I think it was the same as a 1982 16 valve gs750.

Are you sure it is a 630 chain you need? I just went thrugh this with my 83 750E. From the size of the chain I thought I needed a 630 as it looked so much beefier than the 530 on my Yammie. I even had my buddies at the dealership check it and they also thought it was a 630. When I had it off, I read 530 on the rear sprocket. then I thought to look in the manual and it calls for a 530.

It may be different for your bike but the concensus is that 750s would only need a 530.

Check the sprocket for marking and if you can clean the crud off your chain it should also be stamped.

Just thought you might want to check.

      Cheers,
      Spyug.

These guys have been great to me. Fast shipping. Great prices. You won't find cheaper chain prices.

I just happened to get a new JC Whitney catalog yesterday, so I looked up what they had to offer.
(They seem to indicate that it is a 630 chain.)

          Front sprocket:
          15-tooth, p/n CBG024982, $13.99

          Rear sprocket:
          41-tooth, p/n CBG066018, $34.99

          Chain:
          630, 96 links, p/n CBG024936. $69.99

Just a note...I have not dealt with chain-drive bikes since April, 1979 when I got 'shafted' for the first time. I have no idea of the quality of the above parts, just letting you know that they are available.
