tired of cutting up or wasting decdent grips when changing handlebars?
this weekend when going over my front end and replacing steering bearings and putting in drag bars i was told the only way to get grips off the hanglebars was to cut em' and gut em'. needless to say i was disappointed, i' running a really tight budget and even if grips are cheap the nearest store is a 30 minute ride and online isnt always too cheap. i looked over my grips and noticed that there was a little play in the end of the grip towards the middle of the bar obviously where the previous installer did not put adhesive. i sprayed WD-40 and kept twisting and working the WD-40 in, and after 10 mins of twisting it popped off, and i was able to reuse it on my new drag bars. i tried it again on my friends bike and found if you work the wd-40 in and then stick the grip in a vice you can use the extra leverege to work the grip off by rotating the bar around in the grip. thought id share the experience with you guys.Tags: None

I found the easiest way is to immerse in boiling water with a little washing up liquid added for a few minutes.
The rubber will then be very soft and will simply unroll from the handlebar - a bit like the opposite of fitting a condom (if you don't know how to do this, then sorry, I can't help you, you are beyond helping!)

I stick something under the end & spray WD40, twist that bit & then go again with the WD40, by the time you get it about halfway along they literally fall off....

just use a compressor at about 70psi + blow them off, stick the air nozzel under, then blow the air, it makes the grips flap around like when you stick your toungue out and blow. while flaping just pull off or push on. and your done, you could use some water as well. petrol based stuff or cleaner products aren;t good for grips it breaks them down.78 GS1000 Yosh replica racer project
