    stupid question?

i just read about sucking on the vacuum line to see if your diaphram is bad how does this work exactly and what do u have to have your p/c set to?

Set it on reserve OR the normal position.
Do not put it on Prime.
If you suck on the vacuum line in either of those positions, you should have fuel running out of the fitting where the main fuel line connects.

      I agree on the settings.

However, it is much safer if you have a vacuum pump you can use. If you do have to suck with your mouth, be prepared for a bit of gas if your diaphragm happens to have a leak.
