My understanding (I could be wrong) is that the top and bottom go together in a matched set. They are machined on the sandwiched horizontal surface, bolted together, and then the critical surfaces such as round the bearing surfaces and outer side cover surfaces are machined. In this way very close tolerances can be held. I have a hard time imagining that Suzuki could build the cases any other way.Ed
To measure is to know.

Thought most, if not all, Suzuki's came as a crankcase set. Same as cylinder heads and cam caps.
But I may be wrong.

I didn't want to hear that, I have the top case al set up with the crank and gearbox in and as I was going to put the bottom on I saw it had been broken and puttied at the bottom mount area, would seem someone used a bolt too long at some stage. I put the broken case on another top I had there and it seems to match okay, make me wonder how accurate the japs are in there machine shop and if I could give it a go. As they're not shell bearings it shouldn't matter as much.
Tell me I'm just being a lazy bastard and to do the job properly.

Boy am I havin' fun here. Got it back together, in matching cases, got the cases together, pistons on, than as I was putting the head on one of the studs pulled out of the case!!!!!!! Yep now I ahve another problem..
Now when I was working on a VW many moons ago I had this happen and they sold me a stud saver thing that was a stud with a savage tapered thread on it that burried itself into the case and saved dismantling and helicoiling the case. Please tell me someone has heard of this type of thing for my Suzi as I've just spent over $300 on gaskets and the like.[-o<

Not heard of that one for Suzuki's. Think you got to go for a helicoil or a weld and retap the thread job.
Sorry!
