    slight pinging during start-up

The bike is running well, however, I've recently notice a slight pinging sound during warm-up of bike. It goes away once I start riding. If I had to count, it sound like 2 pings. i.e. - brum, brum, brum, ping, ping, brum brum brum, ping ping... heheheh.

Any suggestion as to what it is??? Should I be worried???

    thanks

Sounds like you might be a little lean on the idle circuit at start up. If it's not popping on deceleration and not knocking under a load at low throttle settings you're probably alright. Do a plug read to see how they look.

yeah, no popping and no real sound during low throttle. My plugs look a little white. Well, pretty white. Guess I'm running lean. What are the steps to correct burning too lean? thanks!

        Engine noise

If you are talking about a bell-like pinging that occurs when the engine is cold and if by putting a screwdriver to your ear you narrow the culprit down to the top-end or even 1 cylinder. then you are most likely hearing piston slap. my 1980 GS1000G slaps pretty consistent when cold. just ensure proper warmup before riding or you will break piston skirts. also piston slap will not be heard when motor is hot except in extreme cases.

If the noise only exists at idle regardles of eng. temp. and goes away as rpms are raised then look to your cam chain tensioner.
