Bike just quit in 4th gear twice?

    Hi All,
Today I started up the old 550 to go out for a ride and it seemed to run fine. I warmed it up and jamed it down the road shifting at about 7 or 8k and when I hit 4th gear the power the the coils just quit! I pulled over and lights where still on but no power to the starter the thing dident even click, after 5 min it started and did the same thing. I charged it for a few mins on 10 amp and the batt read 12.80 v. I took it for a normal ride under 6k and it ran fine. When I got back the Batt was at 13.2 v What the #### is going on?

    Any takers?

Clean the kill switch. Do you have a sidestand switch?

        Could be like my problem.

Check out my similar problem on my GS750- Similar symptoms as yours -The fix was easier than another CDI or more parts -
contact for clutch safety switch cleaned and bike started to run better.
My bike would stall while running and be hard to restart (sometimes).
It would die in any gear and maybe start back up or not.
After the switch was sandpapered clean, the contacts were better and bike would start and run fine. Might help you, maybe not - worth a try.
