Front Brake Conversion - Drum to Disc

    Hello All,

I'm having a lot of frustration with the front drum brakes on my '78 gs400xc. Finding parts, such as a new front brake cable, has proven incredibly difficult. I'm thinking this is a sign that I should just convert to disc brakes anyway. The question is, how?

The front shocks have the mount for the disc brakes because the fancy model for my year came with disc brakes. Obviously the simplest thing to do would be to find the front wheel and brake stuff from one of these models. I'm going to keep looking for these parts, but there aren't a whole lot of these bikes around. Does anyone know if the wheel and brakes from a GS550 of the same year would match up without any troubles? These seem to be much more readily available.

    Thanks for your input.

    Peace,
    Scott

My guess is stuff from a single disk 550 should bolt right up.

Use the parts fische at www.flatoutmotorcycles.com. They use genuine Suzuki part numbers. So you will be able to cross reference similar parts on different models. They also have the best prices for OEM parts, though they're a little slow on shipping.
