    I have a hard time getting neutral - 1977 GS 750

My 1977 GS 750 runs great until I come to a stop. Then it becomes almost impossible to put it into neutral. I have to go to 1 then 2 and try to go down a half and by the time I finally get it, the light changes (or the bike stalls). Is there something wrong with the shifter? Or is it the cable?

I also have a problem when releasing the clutch, it seems to stick which leads me to believe that it is the cable.

I had the same problem until I replaced the clutch cable. Use OEM only.

Ditto that. I dont know about your bike but on mine the shift linkage gets stiff if I dont lube it.

I have a 77 GS750 also. It is awful to get into nuetral. somewhere some time I read they did a recall or replacement of the clutch actuator rod on the 77 750. I have a replacement rod but have never put it in. Of course I don't know which or if either is the original or replacement.

Should be in gear at a stop light anyway, so it's really not important

            Ha

I can keep it in gear for about five or six lights then my left hand and wrist gets tired from holding the clutch in.

i ordered a clutch cable. It is back ordered and it will take a week or so.

Don't ride in the city. Just kidding

When you downshift try clicking it into neutral instead of first.

I have 4 gs750's 1977 to 1979 and they all need to be rolling just a bit to find neutral. I have tried lots of things and the only time I found it effective is when I replaced the basket bearing and clutch hub with OEM clutch plates/metal plates and stock springs. that worked great for about 8 to 10k miles.
