    1977 GS 750 carb woes

My tech thinks that the last mechanic turned my airscrews too tight and broke the tips. Can I fix this?

My second question is the manual reads that I could move up to the 29mm smoothbore carbs that were found on the Kawasaki 900-1000's.

I have found a set. The manual reads that this will get rid of the hesitation and sluggishness off a start.

    Any input would be great!

The side air screws used on VM carbs are relatively blunt tipped and I doubt they're broken. These screws can get stuck and it's easy to strip the heads off trying to remove them.
I think you mean the pilot fuel screws which are sharp tipped and are underneath and engine side of the bowls. If these are broken off in the carb body then you can try Marks method described earlier.
The smoothies are great carbs but in my opinion are wasted unless you also have K&N pods and a quality 4-1 pipe.
You'll almost certainly need to re-jet these carbs and that can be difficult. You may have to make throttle valve/cut-away changes (expensive) besides different mains, jet needles or needle positions and pilot jets and air jets.
And on the seventh day, after resting from all that he had done,God went for a ride on his GS!
Upon seeing that it was good, he went out again on his ZX14! But just a little bit faster!

Oh, and any sluggishness or hesitation off the start is not something that your model does normally. The stock 26 VM carbs (re-jetted for mods of course) work very well with either a stock motor, or with a good pipe and pods. The smoothies are better but you'll typically have to work harder to jet them.
