    Field wire routing

    GS-1000 ~ 1980 model year unmodify.

I am helping a friend with a GS-1000 that has a power generation problem. I need to know the path that the field windings wires (3 of various color combinations) take when exiting the compartment. This I hope will help me get the proper color codes for the actual field wires. I have followed the information that came with the new regulator that was ordered and found that I have the proper voltage across 4 wires - not just 3. I have also metered the wires and have found that all 4 wires are the same value (Fluke 4 place meter). I do not expect that the field windings are bad but since there is both proper output voltage and proper Ohms across all 4 wires I need help in narrowing it down to the 3 that are the field windings.

Should you have any test requirements etc for me to make let me know and I will post the results.

Thanks to all in advance for your help.

      Need additional Info on this

I have already followed these sheets. But short of engine disassembly I was hoping to find out what route the field wires follow from inside the engine compartment to the regulator under the battery.

This is NOT covered in these sheets.

Does this wire bundle travel through the engine to exit at the back?
or does this wire bundle exit at the front of the engine and is routed back in another bundle? Or is this wire bundle nested under the actual engine.

      Thanks

Are you talking about routing the wires out from inside the engine? If that is your concern...I don't have a 1000 but rather a 550, the wires on my bike route out a hole in the cases near the starter motor. I suspect the 1000 is the same but obviously I'm not sure.

GS1000GT-my wire come out between the starter and the oil pressure switch on top of the cases and run back to the regulator.
