    True or false

    True or false- as the engine wears the valve clearances get tighter. I say it's true.

    More often true, but not always.

      True for the 8 valve GS engines - general statment of course. Engines with rocker arms and more moving parts in the valve train are sometimes different.

        So when I reshim the three valves I have with zero clearance I should aim for the high side? Or should I make them the 0.002 the other 5 valves are at?

          0.002 is still too narrow a clearance, at least on my bike. Use whatever shim will give you the most clearance without going out of spec.

            According to my Clymer's book they should be 0.001" to 0.003"

            Right now 3 of them are less than 0.001"

              Sorry, my bad. I was thinking in mm. not inches and that's where the confusion is I think. I always adjust to the high side, but as long as you're within spec. you'll be O.K.
