    to mod or not...

I've got an 82 GS850 GL, and I'm contemplating the idea of removing the stock air box and installing new individual filters for each carb, of course I'm gonna have to rejet the carbs(which im not really looking forward to...) I just can't stand the look of that god ugly stock airbox wich they try to spice up with a little chrome triangle...

with the box removed the engine and bike in general just look so "clean" that it repulses me to have to re-install it, My main questions are: will i be asking for trouble if i do this? Will the bike be as dependable after? Will i need to look into cams...ect. ?

    P.S. this site rocks!!!

if you do pods (individual filters) you wont have to reinstall the airbox

Yes, you will definitely have to re-jet the carbs. No, you will not "have to look into cams" or anything else.

The amount of trouble that this will cause will depend greatly on how far off the jetting is and how hard you run the bike before it is correctly jetted. By installing the pods, you will be running lean and that is definitely not good for the engine.

Dynojet has a jet kit for all 850's. Ifyou install it with the pods you will have no trouble with tuning assuming you're already synchronized with clean carbs and valves adjusted, etc.
