    GS1000 idle setting

I cant seem to find it on 81 GS1000g.
I see it in the book but too blind to see on the bike.

I am idling to fast 1500 or so.

Should try to hold 1000-1100 RPM's. If you can't get the RPM's to drop after the bike is fully warmed up, there is a good chance that you are pulling in air from around the intake boots, air box, or associated clamps.

You have to shove your hand in (I wear a mechanics glove or riding glove when doing it, it's hot in there) & it is a little wheel on the airbox side of the carbs right in the middle.

From memory you turn it anticlock to reduce the idle. Aim for about 1100.

No, it's just a thumbwheel that. It basically moves a stop that the throttle plate hits when you come off throttle.

If you look at the fiche on http://www.bikebandit.com you'll see the thumbwheel on there but you can't really miss it!

Clockwise will raise your idle and it is easier to turn if you give it a little throttle when turning it so the tension of the throttle plate is off of it just in case you have to go back up with the idle.
