    Honda R/R install

Any help would be appreciated. I have the honda SH232 regulator and i can not figure out how to wire it. This is the one i bought from duaneage off this board. Here's the link he says to use. i just can't figure it out and would rather ask than do damage.

    Here's what i got.

Out of Honda R/R ..................................... Suzuki Hookup
    3 yellows........................................... ...........3 stator wires
    Green Wire.............................................. ........Chasis Ground
Red Wire.............................................. ........ Wiring Harness Red wire

    UNMATCHED Where do these go?

Black wire with a Y connector from regulator EDIT: Okay, brake light switch. Got it.

And then a White w/ red stripe and a White w/ green stripe from the suzuki wiring harness.

    Any help would be appreciated.

The Y hooks the black wire from the regulator to the brake switch before the switch. Disconnect the brake switch and wire the Y in. The other two wires look like stator wires. Do you have all three stator wires accounted for?

The black wire is a "sense" wire. It senses the output from the r/r and adjusts the output within its limits. Connect it to a wire that is switched with the ignition, like the brake wire.

The two white wires with stripes make a detour toward the left handgrip. Is it fair to assume (yeah, I know 8-[) that this is on your '80 550? Do you have a headlight switch that works? Some bikes had them, some didn't, and, they were phased out in later years, so I don't know when the 550s lost them. The headlight switch had two sets of contacts. One that would turn on the headlight, the other would connect/disconnect the third leg of the stator, so that the r/r did not have to regulate the full output if the headlight was not on. If your headlight is always on, just connect the three stator wires to the three yellow wires on the r/r and ignore the two striped white wires. If your headlight switch still works, re-route one of the stator wires (doesn't matter which one) to one of the white wires, then the other white wire to the third input on the r/r.

Yes. The three stator wires (coming from the stator) are white/blue, white/green, and solid yellow.

I understand now the function for the Y black wire, but what about the two wires coming from the suzuki wiring harness?

Wow, i love this board. Anyways, yes, it's the 80 gs550 and the headlight switch is present and works.

Two leftover wires go to the light switch. If you have run the stator wires to the reg ? they are not needed- just let them hang

Well i did some searching on headlights and the reg and ended up hooking one leg of the stator( which happened to be white/green) to the white green "headlight' wire, and then the "return headlight" white/blue to the yellow of the honda r/r.

Works great. no problems.. Just idled it in the garage at around 13k.
Headlight still works and results in no dropping of volts. have not revved it yet due to other issues, but i'm happy.

              Thanks once again guys

I've been busy with home maintenance issues, just saw this. The old 550's have a little bit different color scheme for the wires, but when you boil it down to the 3 stators, a ground, an output wire and the brake light switch it leaves little room for doubt.
