    1981 GS650G: Need oil cooler

I have used the search feature but have not found an answer. Does anyone know where I can buy an oil cooler for my 1981 GS650G?
    Thanks.

I don't think there are any kits available unless you can find a leftover somewhere. You can pick up a radiator pretty easy off ebay but I'm not sure how to hook it up. Maybe someone will chime in with the scoop.

        no, not available stock...

not sure that you can add one without upgrading (adding?) a higher pressure oil pump.

My 82 doesn't have one. Can I ask why you want to put one on?

The bike did not come with one stock

but I would like to have one because I am convinced that lower oil temps contribute to longer engine life. I realize that overcooling the oil comes with its own set of problems as well, but this is highly unlikely with a high rpm air cooled engine. I know that modern motor oils are well sufficient to handle the heat, however, the marginally lower operating temp over the life of the engine can pay big dividends. By the way, I am using Rotella 15w40 diesel oil in the summer and 10w40 in the Spring/Fall. Once I find a cooler, I will switch to 10w40 all year long.

You can use a auto transmission cooler or find one on Ebay. Two places to tap into the bike are the oil sensor unit and the oil filter cover. I know a member here (terry) has fabbed cooler lines coming from the sensor unit. I don't know of a oil filter cover with taps that you can find but I'm sure they can be fabbed.
