another fork question
Still haven't found replacement fork springs for the 1000L, going to give it some shimming on old springs and see how it works. Anyone know how much fork oil for a 79 GS1000L? I've only come across amount for std/E models and these forks are little different. Also any suggestions on how big of spacer I should add ? Any help is appreciated, thanksTags: None

A GS1000GL calls for 8.3 oz. I would assume a 1000L would be the same. I would try maybe 1.5" spacer to start and use a fender washer between the spring and shim.

A way to tell how long of a spacer to add is to measure the amount of sag. That's the difference between the fork fully extended and the length with the bike on the ground with your weight in the seat. For a plush ride try about 1 1/2" of sag. For a firm ride shoot for about 1" of sag.
