GS1100GK valve cover question

    GS1100GK valve cover question

    I picked up an '82 1100GK a couple of weeks ago and have begun bringing it back to roadworthy condition. Here's my question: can I remove the valve cover without having to remove the fairing brackets? I sure hope so.
    Also, while I'm at it, is anyone else planning to attend the VJMC national meet at CumberLand Gap this coming weekend?

    1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.
    1985 GS1150ES stock with 85 Red E bodywork.

      I'm not a 100% sure on this, but I don't ever remember having to remove the fairing brackets to pull the cover on a GK. Maybe a current GK owner can add to this.

        I'm going to go ahead and find out 1st hand, as soon as I get my hands on a replacement valve cover gasket. I'll post my results for anyone wondering in the future.

          I pulled the cover of this afternoon. I now know, and anyone that reads this does too that the valve cover (or cam cover, for FWIW) can be removed from a GS1100GK without removing the fairing or fairing brackets. I removed the vent cover before attempting to remove the valve cover but I'm not certain if its necessary.
