speedo question!
If my speedo is rising from 45 to 50 and under 45 is fine and over 50 seems fine than where would the problem be?Is it the cable or the speedo itself.it fluctuates from 45 to about 48 when crusing at 45.New cable perhaps???Tags: None

Wavering speedo
Though no guru or "senior member/site supporter", this IS one problem I've battled over the past few years and had over and over again with my '82 750TZ--many cables and a few new speedos, no matter what it seems to crop back up...UNTIL I tried the "chain wax" lube solution. For whatever reason, its helped stabilize my speedo considerably and the fluctuation has vanished, at least for the past 6 months. I've learned enough about my TZ over the years to not start bragging yet, but it really has helped. I've always wondered, since it seems to come back so reliably, if it has something to do with the routing/path of the cable. Whatever, it's gone for now!

I use the chain wax also with good results.

Benefits of chainwax
Best stuff I've tried for uncooperative speedo cables, though for some reason I've never needed it (just good old fashioned Li grease) for tach cable. I wonder if it's just that much better a lubricant?
BTW the TZ has been great these past years, though lately the 25 year old labor factor (now cam cover oil leak--baby powder really does work!) has gotten to be a pain. I just keep remembering that my old knees need attention too!

Thanks guy's I'll just try some good old fashioned high temp wheel bearing grease that I use on my boat bearings.I have cleaned it 2 times and put regular oil on it but it doesnt last long.
