    1985 gs700es starting problems

I have an 1985 suzuki gs700es that wont start. It kinda sputters when the choke is moved around while the starter is cranking but wont actually fire up. i live in cali and its not cold. any ideas what to check and how to troubleshoot to get it going? I just bought the bike and have no idea how long it sat for sure. had new needles and seats put in the carbs and the bike is at 44,000 miles. please help

Asuming the bike was running and just put in storage?
Make sure the battery is fully charged
Make sure that petcock is working
Replace the spark plugs, at least clean them
drain tank/carbs and fill with fresh gas
Check for spark if you have no spark check the ign
    reinstall plugs
Try to start again, It may help to jump it from car battery WITHOUT the car running.

A few things to check, make sure your air filter isn't clogged, then make sure gas is flowing from the tank into the carbs, by setting the petcock to prime and seeing if gas flows. When you move the choke, is the rod on the carbs moving it's full distance, pull on it to make sure. Then check to make sure your plugs are firing. If all these check out, I'd move on to removing the carbs, and cleaning them. Good luck.

If you have spark, your ignition is probably ok.
