Top of the sight glass is perfect. If you changed the filter fill it to the top of the window and run the bike for a few minutes and check again.1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.

If you can't tell where the level is, try tipping the bike just a bit either way to see if the level appears. If it's high, you need to drain some oil and find out why it's high. If it's low, it takes less than half a quart to raise it from the lower mark on the sight glass to the top mark.

On the centre stand, resting on the rear tire my oil wil be in the upper half of the window with 3.5L of oil in the engine. If I let it rest on the front wheel with that much oil in it it won't show in the window.
You take it from there.
