best place to mount on 78 GS1000E ? want to hide it 4 1/2 X 4 1/2 anybody using this type of horn or any idea as to where to locate .Rob

on older "out in the open" bikes it is pretty hard to hide anything.

how much room do you have under your battery box?
you may have to get creative and relocate something.

I have one on my 83 1100E, mine has the Scotty mono pod mod (big pod air filter in place of second air box/ filter holder) and that opened up room where I was able to mount my nautilus to the front of the rear fender.

I have been thinking about mounting one on the 80 1000G but have not sat down and figured out where yet.

Next time I'm going with a polite little "beep beep" horn on a second switch, and a pair of Stebels on the regular horn button. The big horn is just too much to use for most things, like a little polite request for a little space, or to let them know you are there when it's not clear they see you. But when you are in a potentially dangerous situation and you really need to let them hear it, those suckers are LOUD. People react quickly when they hear something like that coming. Stereo on, cell phone in one hand and a beer in the other, soccer van full of whining brats, windows up with AC, it just doesn't matter, you have their attention. You just don't necessarily know which way they are going to move when they hear it.

I just got one of these.

Some things I found out researching them:

The stebel compact nautilus and the wolo bad boy are the exact same horn with different cosmetic covers on top.

Harbor freight (harborfreight.com and local stores) has the wolo bad boy for $30 on their website.
It is advertised instore for $35, but if you printout the webpage, they honor the price no problem.
In my case, I asked at the register, and they sent someone back to their computer, who printed it out for me there ... \\/

the "139 dB" is a bull**** spec
Stebel's own page http://www.stebel.it/stebel/index2007.htm says that the 139 dB is when measured 4 inches from the horn

Stebel gives the loudness at 115 dB at 2 meters, which is pretty much comparable to other horns (I believe that should equate to 118 dB at 1 meter)

OK, so you are proud of your horn and rightly so, but what all is hiding in the other box?

Sorry I don't have a picture of my gs750L. I don't know about your 1100E, but on the 750L there are a couple of blank threaded bolt holes on the front side of the frame behind the front wheel. I took a 1 inch by 1/4inch piece of flat steel and bolted to the frame of the bike using those holes. The piece of flat steel extends to the right side of the frame so that the horn is mounted just outside of the right frame tube, just ahead of #4 cylinder, but high enough not to interfere with air flow to the engine. In this position it is right out front to be heard by all. I would not be without one of those little horns, they really get the attention of the cagers.

Greg, great idea. I do believe I have those little bolt holes (always wonderered what those were for anyway. I might be able to fab something similar to what you did. Thanks for the suggestion!
