Here's a suggestion for info you could include for those who really didn't know what they were doing (like me). If you can't measure the valve clearance, in other words, it's too small, try to turn the bucket with your fingers. If it doesn't turn easily the shims are touching the cam and it will be impossible to calculate the proper size shim replacement. In this case, it's a good idea to go down two shim sizes and remeasure. This was the advise given to me by a local inline 4 wrench.

Do you have a copy of my valve adjust spreadsheet?

Would have loved a spreadsheet for when I did my valves, which were way out of whack. In fact, could you send one to stephenmag nusen@hotmail.com. No space between the g and n (keeps the bots from combing and spamming me).

Steve you have my feedback via email. I have completed the valve adjust. it took me two goes as I figured out with your help the shims I would need. When I did the replacements and re-measured there were still a couple out of spec. i.e. Theory vs practice. Have now changed those couple. Have given you update on a couple of probs with the spreadsheet. Could have been my inexperience with excel. The new updated version you gave me works well. Thanks again.
P.S. Bike is running well. Have a 500+ mile club run in a week. will let you know how bike ran on trip.
Cheers
Don

Steve,
Not sure if I got the original spreadsheet or one of the updated ones, but when I did my valves I didn't notice any issues with the sheet. Now my valves on the other hand, had some big issues with cylinder #3. Intake needed to be dropped 0.20mm while the exhaust needed to be dropped 0.35mm. I had to keep dropping one shim size till the .038mm feeler gage, the smallest I have, would fit between the cam and shim.
Thank you for all your hard work on this spreadsheet, I hope that it will really make a difference with the next and subsequent valve jobs.

Thanks for a copy of the spreadsheet, Steve. This thread will come in handy when I find the time to break the bike down. Hoping soon. Having back problems.

I'd really appreciate a copy of the sheet, too, if possible, Steve. I really should go through the valves this winter - said that last winter, too
Thanks - logan@pt.lu

Thanks Steve, a copy of your spreadsheet will be appreciated. When I do my valves, using BassCliff's howto, your spreadsheet should be of great assistance. Email in profile

Thanks for all the interest in the spreadsheet, but PLEASE...click on my name and send me an e-mail with your request.
These last three: headphase, Pete Logan and Matchless at least gave me their address or mentioned it's in their profile, but not everybody has their e-mail in their profile. Also, my e-mail gets checked more often than this forum, so you are likely to get a quicker response. 8-[
It's also easier to just reply to an e-mail than generate one, but that's just pure laziness on my part.

Wow, just checked my list of 'registered' users ... 41 of you have requested a copy. \\/
Keep the requests coming, but remember ... e-mail, not PM.
Nothing special about the 'registration', it just lets me know who to send the upgrades to when they are ready. 8-[
