why is the R/R from a Honda a better application? I know when I rebuilt my 82 CB750C it was the R/R that fried my stator and I had to replace both. I don't think I follow how putting a Honda on the Suzuki is a better idea....

The Honda R/R is simply much higher quality and a slightly different design that is far more reliable.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.

Modern Suzuki regulators are an option too. I put a late model Suzuki r/r I found on eBay on my 750 and it worked great. It was much larger (more cooling area). Basically any r/r from a bike with a three wire stator will work, as I understand it.
