    Could this be the coil?

My bike (79 GS1000L) will not start. Put a brand new battery in. Headlamp shows nice and bright, but starter doesn't turn. No fuses out that I can see. Has to be:

    1. Starter switch
    2. Starter
    3. Coil???

I'm not electrically smart at all. Any other possibilities? How do I troubleshoot?

Are you pulling in the clutch when you try to start it? There is a disconnect switch at the base of the handle (which many people bypass).

disconect the control wire off from the starter silnoid and conect it to the positive termenel. If the silinoid dosent make a clicking sound, and the bike then doent turn over then you silnoind is bad
