Those are awesome! Eventually I would like to get something like those, but I want to wait until I "build" my fairing to make sure the lights clear the edges.

As an FYI, I scored the headlight, bucket, and ears (if I can use em) AND a ratty seat for $35. I don't care that the seat is ratty, I have a nice "tour" seat, but I want something I can customize, so this will work perfect.

I ordered the o-rings from the suggested cyclerings site. I am going to order the gaskets.

Another question, has anyone had success "coating" a gas tank? Mine has minimal rust inside, but I will have it all apart and thought about doing this or the nuts and bolts trick. Thoughts?

Use the POR-15 stuff. If you prep the tank right, it works great. Fix any dents first.

Great info. Will do. I will take and post some pics of my "before" and after and some along the way. The bike is in pretty decent shape for almost 30 years old, but yours is BEYOND nice Bruce. Kudos to a job well done man, I can see that you spent alot of money on Elbow Grease....haha.

The chrome fender can be painted. Just scuff it up some with 220 grit sandpaper and rattlecan it from there. You bike is black, right?


On the tank recoat, it's prep, prep some more, then coat. Take your time getting it ready

Overall, just about anything can be done to the 1000s and someone out there has done it.

My bike is actually maroon. Yeah I think I might try painting the fender at least for a temporary solution. I suspect the bike may have been repainted, at least the tank anyway, and someone may have gotten maroon plastics to go with it.

I have been throwing around the idea of painting the bike since I will have it all apart. I may go with the classic black with white and red decals. OR baby blue with white...undecided.

Don't coat the tank unless it is leaking or it is going to sit with bad gas in it, bare metal is fine in a tank. A little surface rust inside is not a problem once you remove it.
