DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I have an 83 750ES, it looks like the regulator has crapped out on me, I was riding down the road and the bike died, no power whatsoever, after some fooling around I discovered it keeps blowing the main fuse. I tested the regulator and the resistance reads low, around 2 ohms across the board, my question is this, is something else on the bike causing the regulator to fail? or is this a failure mode people here have seen. Id just like some confirmation, i wont be real happy shelling out 120 bucks for an electrex regulator, only to find out something else is the cause.

There is nothing on the regulator that should read "2 ohms", so you might also have a problem with your testing procedure. Have you followed the troubleshooting procedure in the Stator Papers? Good procedure, but you must follow it from step to step, don't skip anything.

.

That was my point, the service manual I have is calling for around 6 ohms, it reads 2, so my question is, did the regulator just go bad, or is there possibly something else that caused it to go bad before I spend the money to replace it.

Did you read the Stator Papers like Steve suggested? Lots of good info there.

The cheesie R/R ground develops resistance which causes the R/R to overheat and burn up. The R/R Suzuki choose for our bikes was weak to begin with so the ground problem didn't help. When the R/R burns up it causes the stator to burn up in many cases. Hopefully that has not happened to your bike. All well documented in the Stator Papers. Go do your homework.

and IF you need a new regulator, getting a used Honda reg from duanage is the most-often recommended idea on the forum.

Cooking with electrons

Mr. kenwa31,

I apologize for my silly question. Are you completely disconnecting the regulator/rectifier from the stator when you take your measurements? A two ohm reading between two output legs of the stator is within spec. If your r/r and stator are connected when you measure resistance, the meter will display the path of least resistance. Forgive me if I state the obvious.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff
