    HMM electrical or mechanical

OK went to bring the 750 home yesterday and either the battery (that seems to take a charge), or the Stator is FUBAR. picked up the bike and it wouldnt idle very well, but we left anyway. Got a couple of blocks and thought "gas", so we pulled in and filled up agian could keep it at idle ok now it a little stinky holding the throttle open at every stop sign so maybe the choke? remember this bike has has just had a mid range rebild all of ths should work. Well after stalling a few times the battery packed it in now it was time for a few bump start's well we made it back to uncles house the bike stalling on every pull of the clutch. Now we must figure out whats wrong. Any sugestions.[-o<

When you buy a 30 year old motorcycle the first thing you need to do is make sure all the maintainance is up to date. Get a manual and go down the list. A couple of things you won't find on there but is necessary is to clean the carbs and replace the various O-rings. Even if they are not leaking today, you are on borrowed time considering the age. Pay me now or pay me later.

Ok well most of the bike is now upto date, now last week before we did the front forks (I'm switching to progessive springs this winter) the bike ran well, had it out for two hours the only problem was the front forks. We cleaned the forks up now they feel great. Now bringing it home it ran like crap, as I listed above. now I need to find out whats wrong, I will test the battery as well as the chargeing system.

I rebuilt my carbs and rejetted them to compenstate for my 4 into 1 Vance and Hines Pipe. I over jetted the pilot jets and put in 40 mm. The bike acted like yours. I rejetted back to 37.5mm non-emulsion type pilots and the problem has been cured. I ride a GS550ES with the two barrel Mikuni carbs on it.

          Good Luck, :-)
