    CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT questions

my gs 1000L i am sure many of you are familiar with.i am trying to get it looking as good as i can, with the intention of keeping it.problems are:
1.i have to let the clutch nearly all the way out now before it starts moving.
2.i had the problem with it slipping at when i romped on it.I was told that was weak clutch springs.I ordered some but havent put them in yet.

    questions:
1.how do you adjust the clutch at the engine level. You unscrew the adjuster and then rotate which direction. The clymer manual doesnt make it clear to me.I have it adjusted to only 1/16 inch of free play at the handlebar connection.I am thinking a proper adjustment might do it.
2.if i replace the springs I might as well replace the clutch right?
then i will still have to know how to properly readjust after putting the engine cover back on.

help appreciated.I aint ready to put her out to pasture.

Measure the thickness of the clutch plates and replace them if they are out of spec.

I'm not familar with the 850 but on my 550 I just tweak the screw until you have the amount of free play I desire and then snug down the lock nut.

Change the clutch cable and springs. Easy money Ron. Did you get a gasket? Just put the bike on it's side stand and take off the clutch cover.
Replacing the cable should help the clutch lever problem and the springs will fix the slipping.

There is a nifty little key in the upper right-hand corner called "Backspace" that will erase all those caps and let you do it again. 8-[

There is another nifty thing called a SPACE BAR. Makes reading text MUCH easier.

Adjust both adjustments first, and the plates are usually not bad unless it has been raced or neglected, springs go bad from age.

This makes 910 posts for me and you are the first one to ever gripe about my spacing.

I've got A-G-E disease - can't see as well as I used to and my eye's hurt trying to read sentences that are all run together.
