Jumps out of 2nd under hard acceleration

I've got a 82 650 G with 30K. Runs great, but when I really jump on the throttle from 1st to 2nd, it will jump out of 2nd. I've adjusted the clutch cable and the clutch and basket were brand new when I got it about 6 K ago.I'm now thinking its something in the gearbox, but I've never had a bike tranny apart before, so I don't know what to look for. Could anybody tell me what and how to check for the problem? also how hard would it be to replace the worn parts? thanks, RGC.

Most like a bent shifting fork. There are three of them in your tranny. you have to spilt the cases to fix it. If you have to go there I can send you pages from my service manual to help you out.

Thanks Billy, sounds like a good winter project to me. As long as I keep it under 7K in 2nd it does fine. Its still decent riding weather here in NC, but around december or january I will probably tear it down and replace those forks. I'll PM you for those pages when its time. Thanks again for your helpRGC

My 1150 does that too. Only it jumps of you dump the thotttle after hard acceleration. I was suspecting a bent fork, looks like I was on the right track ~

Very common issue on the 650's

I had one that did it at about 8K rpm at 25,000 mi

I swapped the entire trans with a low mileage unit at 45,000 mi, when it had started doing it at ~5-6K rpm.

Now it does it at 8500k rpm.
