    Hello to all............................for the folk riding 1983/84 GS 750 out there.................
    can you tell me what rpm's your engine is spinning at 100 kilometers per hour (60 miles per hour) please?

    Should be somewhere around 4,500 with stock gearing.

          No problem. I was just curious. The 1100E I just bought was running right about 3,000 at 55 to 60 mph. Even in 5th gear it acted like it had room for more upshifting. Perhaps I'm just not used to that kind of power, yet.

          Seeing that the 750 is around 4,500, I'm assuming 3,000 is probably right.

            Good rule of thumb for stock geared GS's, 750 & up is 1000 rpm per 15 mph. Not exact, but pretty darn close.

              With stock wheels (19" front, 17" rear) and gearing (15 tooth front, 42 tooth rear sprockets), rpm should be 3,811 @ 60 mph.

              If you're at 3,000 rpm or so, either your gearing has been pretty significantly changed, or your tach is malfunctioning.

                Okay. Thanks guys. I'll have to verify the actual tach reading. I was pretty sure it was around 3,000, but could be wrong.

                Now that I think about it, I was in a 45mph speed zone at the time. I know I blipped it up to 55 or 60 to see how quick it would get up there, but could have easily read the tach when I was at 45 and just had my speeds mixed up.

                I'll check again when it's legal to drive (need to get the temp plates).

                  Around 3800 rpm is typical, with the stock setup (GS1100)....these bikes were geared to put out impressive 1/4 mile times and win magazine shoot-outs. Still, 3000 @ 60 mph sounds pretty tall and you would need to slip the clutch quite a bit while getting off the line, if that is the way your 1100 is geared, I would think. Currently I run around 3400 at 60 mph, with acceptable performance off the line.
