Lights Are On But Nobody's Home.
HI guys. First i'd like to say that even though this is my second attempt to get this right,[not put in the right forum.] .I feel confident that you mech. wizards can help so THANKS in advance . I own a 82 1100e. .As of lately i have gremlin with the indicator lights.When starting up the head light.tail light and stop lamp light do not go out anymore as they should.I changed the fuse for the headlight .the headlight went out like it should but the ind.light remained on. Then i proceded to check the wiring to the brakes.every thing is ok.The only other thing i can think of is that i have just changed the rear break pads last week. They finally left me after 25 years of faithful service.So WTH. Does anyone have an inkling about my dellemma? any ideas will get me just that much closer.[-o< HAPPY HOLLUDAYS TO ALL. Usually when electrical symptoms don't make a lot of sense, the culprit is a bad or open ground connection. Try running a separate test ground wire from one of those lights directly to battery negative and see if that changes anything. Let us know.

The rear brake pedal has a switch attached to it, next to the frame, with a long spring attachment. The switch can be adjusted up or down using the 2 nuts that hold it onto the frame bracket. Adjust the position of the switch till the brake lamp goes off.
The indicator warning lamp is on the same circuit as the headlight though, have you checked that each indicator is working correctly? The fact that you had to replace the H/L fuse would indicate an issue with the lighting circuit.
PS does the bike still have the auto cancel indicator function?

the 82 (and a few others) have a module that controls those warning lights, it detects current flow on the monitored circuits and when there is not enough current flow it illuminates the warning light for that circuit.
well that critter "relay lamp outage warning" (found under gas tank) can fail.
pull tank go over connections, make sure they are clean and all else fails replace module or pull the warning bulbs.

If these lights come on slightly fainter than usual, then you can be fairly sure that an earth problem is present, Check that none of your B/W wires are broken off and that the negative wires right from the battery and where screwed to the frame are not broken or corroded. Or prove as "tomm" stated in his reply.
