oil leak? whats it called?
alright my 650 has a oil leak on the back side of the motor. Under the carbs there is something bolted to the jugs. Does anyone know what that is called? Or what its for? Thanks in advance

Might be just the gasket, might also be the o-rings in the tensioner itself.
Brian Wringer has an excellent pictorial on how to repair it. \\/

The small seal is the part that invariably leaks the most, but the small o-ring is also usually leaking a bit. You have to replace the large o-ring when you disassemble the tensioner, but it's normally not leaking.

Also make sure it's not coming from the front of the engine and running in between the cylinders to the rear.1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.
