Bill - sorry to be a donut... so you mean on the metal or the grey bouyant bit??
If the metal that's where I did my measuring.... Clymer's doesn't specify.
This'll clear it up... red or green I measured right next to the hinge on the metal.
Thanks again,
Dan

You measure at the green -- where the "I think you mean here" text is pointing.
I'll search through my recent posts -- I recently went on a bit of a rant regarding float height that should be useful...1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.

Your mention of "a load of sealer" is worrying... there shouldn't be any sort of goop, sealer, crud, or crap anywhere near your carbs.
And as always, check valve clearances (no guessing or believing anything a PO told you - check them yerdamself) and make absolutely sure that the air filter is very lightly oiled and the airbox and filter are sealed.Last edited by bwringer; 11-27-2007, 12:47 AM.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.

What Brian said. The green one. I did the same thing the first time I measured floats. I measured at the float hinge and Keith set me straight. Nah, some sealer around the inlet boots is what I meant, no sealer around the carbs themselves. All now stripped & replaced with good O rings. The carbs are literally spotless.
I did take the measurement at the wrong point so they are much leaner than I thought they were... I guess. I need to mess around again. should have left them alone
It certainly sounds as if they could cure my lean symptoms. I could also do with Getting some new mixture screws so I can tweak those too.
Would the previously drilled slides screw me? My bike is defo very sensitive to throttle movement, I guess that's why it's better the smoother I roll on throttle.
Thanks for the help.
