    What wheels will work?

Does anyone out there have any idea if there are any Katana or GSXR wheels that will work with the stock suspension on a 1985 GS700E ?

Up front it's best to just swap the entire front end. You run into too many complications with the oddball bearing size in the GS front wheel and caliper clearance problems trying to use the GS calipers with the GSXR wheel.

In the back you can use a 4.5" wheel in the stock swingarm. You have to knock out the GSXR wheel bearings and install the GS bearings into the GSXR wheel. Along with the bearings you use the GS spacers and bearing supports. The GS bearing support that's in the wheel hub will be shorter than the GSXR piece. In my case I just used an section of hydraulic jack handle to make up the difference and epoxied it to the GS support. You'll need a Katana 600 caliper hanger and caliper from the Katana or a GSXR 750 from about '88-'91. The brake torque arm has to be moved to the bottom of the swingarm and bent to clear the 160 width tire you run on a 4.5" wheel.

Here is one old pic of my bike and a newer one with inverted fork. Don't mind the paint.

Of cause being that this is "the GSResources" you mean the 19" front &17" rear of an 82 to 85 GSX katana dont you? not the US "sticker bike" GSX-F models:? this is BTW a subtle teasing, remember you are on an INTERNATIONAL forum, to the rest of the world ALL Katana's have GS motors. If we wanted to get really picky only the US continued to call them GS's after the 16 valve motors came out, all 16v GS's are called GSX's everywhere else.
The wheels you refer to are from the GSX-f series (same sizes as GSX-R's) you can fit the rear wheel with a bit of mix and match on spacers, but the front end swap is the way to go.

Thanks for the info guys. I guess I'll have to start searching ebay for parts again!:-D I have a feeling that this project is never gonna end. But that's a good thing.
