    1" handlebar adapters

Hello, does anyone know if they make some sort of adapter riser to bolt on 1" handlebars to my 82 gs 850?

I don't know as I also have an 82' 850. I would be interested to find out though.

What's the advantage of 1" bars?

They seem to be used mostly on the V-twin bikes of most manufacturers, so there might be a good selection of bends, but I am sure you can find a bend that works for you in the standard diameter.

        .
        Ditto. Why?

Of course, anything is possible with a fully equipped machine shop and enough explosives, but there are approximately 4,000,000 different bends available in 7/8 bars, so there's no reason you couldn't find what you need in 7/8".

You would also need all new controls.

Maybe you have a set of 1" bars and controls you want to use...? I don't know of a cheap or easy way to adapt them to the GS850's upper triple. Probably the most straightforward way would be to cut/grind the saddles off the triple clamp and drill them to accept the bolted-in risers from some other model.

If you just want that fat bar look, first stop watching OCC...

There are also some Japanese cruisers (I don't remember which) that have 1 inch bars that are necked down to 7/8 at the controls and mounting points.

Just a brain fart here but could you line bore the triple clamp and handlebar clamps with a 1" reamer?

Yea, I was thinking about that as a last resort. Just worried about not having enough meat left on the clamps.

I think I'll just make a custom bar with 7/8" tube @ the clamps and the rest with 1".

No worry about "meat", you'd only have to take off 1/16" from each side. The concern would be if there is enough room for the clamp bolts.

If the whole purpose of this is to be able to use the controls, why not just use a shim or sleeve on the ends of the (stock) bars where the controls mount?

Ps. How much did you add to the neck?

Because these are late model controls, they require indented handlebars with holes that allow for hidden wires. I want to totally conceal all wires on this bike.

OK, that sounds like a pretty good reason to me. 8-[

Like others have said, we are waiting for pictures.
