wow thanks for the input guys. My bike is a 1980 750E and the swingarm is off a 1982 1100E. When I get around to it I will keep all of you posted with an update.

Well. It's done. n1elkyfan and I got the frame holes drilled out and the swinger mounted. Not as bad as I initially expected, although that first hole had me sweating pretty bad. We had to adjust it a lil up and to the left, but the second hole was cake with the pivot bolt pushed thru and setting in the back of the second hole as a reference. *I* didnt even have to cut anything off the pivot bolt and rethread. Dunno if maybe Dardoonk's bolt was different or off a different bike than my swinger was.

Thats the only thing i can think. I need a washer for the other side to match the nut side, but thats easy enough. I may actually stick with the 13.5 inchers. Got a decent deal on a set of works piggybacks, I'll only know i guess when i get the wheels back on. My frame is cut short too, obviously, so i may not run into interferance. Dunno.

77. I dunno what year yours is, but you MAY not even have to drill it out. The pivot bolt is 16mm on the 1100 swingarm.

I have an 80 in pieces at the house too...i'll check and see if the pivot bolt from it is the same as the 1100. Doubtfull, but possible.

Cafe,
did you manage to check he size of the pivot bolts between the 750 and the 1100? I just checked part numbers on bike bandit for the needle bearings and they are different. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry guys but the best solution to this problem imo would have been to go to your local machine shop & have 2 bearing spacers made up with the od of the swinger bearing spacers & the id of the frame spindle, doing it that way would allow more swingarm swaps in the future with just new spacers :-D
Just in the process of doing this myself to fit a gsxr600k6 arm to my efe frame :-D

I would think I need spacers to allow me to use the stock pivot bolt and the 1100 swinger bearings and bushings. So the spacers would need an od that is the same as the id of the swinger bearings and an id that is the same as the od of the pivot bolt. Correct?

AH..i nearly forgot again. Doug the stocker pivot bolt on your 80 750 will not work unless you do as we had talked about with the drilling, OR do as Tone is talking about. Frankly, in my situation, HAD i been able to find a machine shop around here that would do it, it would have cost me probably 100 bucks. Drilling cost me a drill bit, and some planning, patience, careful observation and time. All of which minus the bit, were free. However, if you can get a hold of some bushes, do so. MUCH less risky. lol
Having said that, i will also say that drilling cause me more anxiety than was necessary. It went pretty easy, the first side being more difficult than the other, and then you can use the pivot bolt as a guide for the second. Helps to have another set of eyes there too. And some motor oil or something to cool and lube the bit.

just had some made up for my k6 gixer arm into an efe frame & thay cost £10 in steel or i could have had them for £15 in stainless not sure what that works out to in $ but bet its not much more than a decent quality drill bit :-D
still not a lot wrong with drilling a frame but there is a lot of room for error so i'd rather spend a few quid & save the drill bits for when i'm desperate :-D

i would rather not drill the frame and risk messing it up. I love the bike and would be crushed if I failed at drilling. I will locate a machine shop who can do this for me and keep everyone posted.
