    8 valve gs 1000 or 16 valve gs 750

8 valve gs 1000 or 16 valve gs 750 what is the horse power rating of each,, and the torgue of each. I have a 78 GS 1000 that I ride regularly, but I also have an 82 GS 750 that I ride. It may be my imagination, no tac or speedo on the 82, but it seems like the 82 has more power off the line and quicker acceleration between the gears. I also have an extra motor for each bike. What I'd like to know is which is the better motor, reliability wise. I'm thinking I'll rebuild one of the engines over time. Before I need it.

I'd guess the responses would be about 50 / 50. Personally, I like the roller bearing cranks, "78" GS 1000, much better than the plain bearings of the "82" GS 750. Just my opinion.

The 1000 is fairly bullet proof & the 750s are notorious for eating rod bearings with age. Get a GS1100 or 1150 motor & install it if you want more power. Or if you have fabrication skills you can put in an oil cooled GSXR motor. The 2 valvers are fairly unbreakable but the 4 valvers make more power. Which is more important to you? Ray.

I had never heard about the 750 rod bearings being a problem. Can someone else verify that?
