Is the oil pan from a 1979 750 the same as a 1982 850?

Hmmm. I have no firsthand knowledge on this subject. But I will offer this.

Here is the '79 GS750 oil pan, part# 11511-45000




And here is the '82 GS850 oil pan, part# 1151-45300




As you can see, they look the same, but the part number is a little different. I've always heard that the 850 is a punched-out 750 with cams from the 1000. If you can get the part cheap enough, I suppose it can't hurt to try. Then again, if you are patient, someone who actually knows what they are talking about should be along soon. The used the same pan gasket from the 77GS750 up to the 83 850G & 1100GL, so if you can get one, I'd bet it will be fine.

I noticed the same thing, the gasket number is the same.
