Hey howdy hey!
Mr. Jace,
Let it be known that on this day you are cordially and formally welcomed to the GSR Forum as a Junior Member in good standing with all the rights and privileges thereof. Further let it be known that good standing can be improved with pictures! :-D
Thanks for joining us. Please feel free to visit my little BikeCliff website, Mr. bwringer's website, read the Stator Papers and the Carb Rebuild series. These will help you get familiar with maintenance on your bike.
There's a short list of known issues with these bikes, especially if they've been sitting for a long time.
Change All Fluids - Crankcase oil, secondary gear oil, final drive oil
Carbs - clean/rebuild
Valve clearances - check and adjust
Petcock - replace if necessary
Airbox/air filter cage - install new weatherstripping to seal it properly
Intake Boots/O-rings - replace if air leaks are suspected
Brake Fluid - replace with fresh fluid (and eventually install braided stainless steel brake lines)
Gas Tank - remove internal rust or coat the internals with your favorite materials (POR-15, etc)
You may wish to visit mr. robertbarr's website for carb O-rings and the like.
Feel free to use the search feature in the forum. If you can't find the information you're looking for, feel free to ask. Thanks for joining us and thanks for your efforts in getting another classic Suzuki back on the road. That's where they are happiest. \\/
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff

Before you do all of the above (all of which is needed)...Give her a good cleaning. It is a lot easier to work when you can see what you're looking at. Welcome!1981 GS 450L
